SMOKERS
Smokers are useful tools for any beekeeper.
We have a few to choose from: Australian, Italian and Chinese.
Our larger bee keepers generally buy the Australian beeco smoker because of the inlet and outlet (when drawing back on the bellows).
Smoker fuel: we sell smoker pellets and wood shavings, but you could also use wood shavings or dry grass clippings.
Spent needles from xanthoreas, or tightly wound corrugated cardboard tied with wire are also effective.
Dried pine needles are very popular, as they are easy to get and produce a cooler smoke, which is easier to extinguish.
Just remember that the fire rules for summer apply to the use of smokers as well.
Beekeepers use smokers to calm their hives. Smoking initiates a feeding response in the bees in anticipation of possible abandonment due to a fire, so smoke enables you to work on your hive without triggering a defensive attack reaction.

Once your order is received, we will contact you when it’s ready for collection and to arrange payment. If posted we do use Australia Post but you are more than welcome to organise your own courier.
