John Guilfoyle mentioned once that you can never learn everything about bees in a lifetime, as they are the most amazing creatures. But that never stopped John; he used to travel the world in his the quest for beekeeping knowledge.
John L. Guilfoyle’s philosophy is to put the needs of the bees first, with the understanding that maintaining healthy, thriving colonies is in the interests of both the bees and the beekeeper.
John and Alice Guilfoyle started their business in Queensland in 1946 and it has now become a generational enterprise. Ross and Jan (two of John and Alice’s children) now own and run the business, and with other members of the Guilfoyle family joining the team recently, it is now 3rd generation.
Barry Stallman was the manager of the Western Australian branch for over 25 years and retired in 2021. Dean has taken up the role of manager.
John L. Guilfoyle focuses on commercial and urban honey production and beekeeping produce, equipment and sales, which encompasses queens and nuc colonies.
All the staff are passionate about bees and will always help with any situation you may encounter in Western Australia. We are proud to say that we are one of the only manufacturers of beeswax foundations in Western Australia (made on the premises from Western Australian beeswax).
- Our wood ware is also made on the premises – so we can custom make almost anything to order.
- Our primary goal in beekeeping education is to teach customers how to ‘read’ a beehive. We believe the bees will tell you everything you need to know – you just need to learn how to listen. At John L. Guilfoyle, we will guide you on how to ‘listen’ with all of your senses, and how to manage your colonies by learning to anticipate how the bees will respond to your management decisions.
